Community
Libraries For over ten (10) years, we have
supported community institutions starting with the public
schools, with shipments of encyclopedias and reference books to
the local high school in 1993. In 1995, we, and the Presbyterian
Church in Chinatown, San Francisco sponsored ten (10) sewing
machines to the same high school for their vocational training
program. In 1996, we sponsored a 16-ton book shipment through
Books for the
Barrios that distributed 2-3 boxes to 55 schools in Laguna
province. On our visit there in 1999 we presented the high
school with a computer.
We will continue two (2) shipments of books for the four (4)
barangays a year. We will write letters of appeal to the book
stores and manufacturers, continue to gather books from Friends
of the Library and Carnivals and pick-up books donated by
Presbyterian Church members. Our
February trip to the Philippines will allow us to assess the
efficiency and utilization of the Neighborhood Library. We will
support with materials / books the Public Elementary and High
School. We will explore our resources for meeting the individual
Barangay Council’s request for computer, xerox machine and day
care books.
